The students have been investigating what life was like in Medieval Mali. They have specifically looked at the importance of trading gold and salt which were found in this area and the impact this had on the wealth of the Empire. The students have also looked briefly at Mansa Musa and his pilgrimage to Mecca by exploring the ideas of Hajj and the conditions in which people travelled. To combine these two elements of trade and Hajj the students wrote a diary extract on what it was like to go on the Hajj with Mansa Musa. They could be as creative as they wished and take on any role from a trader to a slave. Images of the students work can be found below.
