IB DP Geography Retreat

To support your child in their diploma the Geography department organise an overnight revision retreat. All members of the department will be delivering a variety of sessions which include the key aspects of:

  • Exam techniques

  • Revision advice

  • How the course content and theme can link together - encouraging synoptic thinking

  • The reinforcement of command terms and key terms

  • Review of certain aspects of the syllabus

Students will be based in and around the Individuals and Societies classrooms for rotational workshops and peer presentations. We will take advantage of the local area and dine on fondue at the Bain des Paquis. After dinner there will be a Geography 'pub style' quiz and we will culminate the evening with a Geography video while drinking hot chocolate and eating popcorn. The next day students will breakfast together and then the rotational workshops will continue until early afternoon.

Students have found this retreat useful in helping to 'kick start' their revision programme as well as ironing out key misconceptions. It also helps to unify the group and allow students to create revision teams.

The students had a great time at the Retreat this year. They gained an insight into how the exams work, reviewed the key physical geography processes and landforms and ate a lot of cheese.
