Year 7 - Obituary

The students in Year 7 have been investigating the concept of time and change. To do this they explored a specific character that they felt was of importance from the country that they were either born in or hold a passport for. The students focused on the date and place of birth and death, why the person was influential and justified why that person interested them. Examples can be found below:

Year 8 - Winds that Impact Geneva

The students in Year 8 have been looking at the different aspects that make up our daily weather conditions. They have already investigated temperature, clouds and precipitation and now the focus has been on wind. The students explored how wind occurs, what makes them powerful and how where they come from can have a dramatic impact on us. The class produced individual posters on a specific wind that occurs over the city of Geneva. On the information poster they were asked to explain how the wind occurs, what weather that wind brings to the area and therefore how it impacts us. Examples of student work can be found below:

Year 8 - Factor Which Impact Temperature

The Year 8s have been investigating why it is warmer in certain areas around the world than others. To do this the class was divided into small teams and were asked to investigate a specific causes. They then feedback their new knowledge back to their peers via a Google Slide presentation. Examples of the slides and photographs of the students presenting can be found below:

Year 9 - Worst Hazards?

The Year 9s have been investigating different types of human-induced and natural hazards in their first rotation of Individuals and Societies. The topic has fostered a lot of discussion and the students were asked to decide in their opinion what disaster could potentially be seen as the ‘worst’. To formalise this the students wrote a short persuasive piece to outline their key arguments and illustrate their thoughts by using key events. Examples of student work are below:

Year 7 - Bronze Age Cities Living Museum

The Year 7s put on an excellent ‘Living Museum’ all about the importance of specialisation in different Bronze Age Cities. The students really got in to character and were able to live out their chosen positions. Parents and Year 6s came to visit the museum to learn about the how the different cities existed. Thank you to everyone who attended the exhibition and to the students for all of their hard work.

Year 12 - BTEC Business

This week the yr 13 BTEC business students have been working on their organisation and marketing skills to sell Nations Fox key chains, with all proceeds going to the Zambia project.   They have entertained the PYP with their energetic Mr Fox dance moves and enthusiasm.  This follows a 10 week long process where the students had create  a business case including budgets and projections, marketing plans, advertising campaigns, as well as manufacturing the key chains themselves.  This has required imagination, teamwork, leadership and energy.  The key chains will be on sale for just 2 more days  - Monday and Tuesday next week and a new production batch will be needed because of their success!  The keychains are 5CHF each and so far about 700CHF has been raised for the Zambia project!  

Year 12 Higher Level Geography - Tourism in Extreme Environments

Year 12 Higher Level geographers have been investigating how human activity can impact extreme environments. They have specifically looked at the how tourism can be utilised in hot and cold areas. To do this they focused on the town of Chamonix and the city of Dubai. To make the process more exciting the group were asked to create a presentation that would convince their teacher to buy a holiday home in one of the areas. The presentations that were created were interesting and they provoked a lively discussion. Well done Dubai.

Year 12 - BTEC Business and Art

The BTEC Business and Art students have been working on redesigning the IB lounge for the DP and CP students. The Art students completed a mural to improve the design and the feel of the lounge. The Business students researched the benefits of a student lounge, proposed a design with furniture and a room layout, and presented their ideas to school administrators. We hope to have a relaxing and beautiful space in the next year.

Year 7 - Wonderful World

The Year 7 have been exploring how nature can make wonderful landforms. The students were taught how weathering and erosion are the processes behind the formation and they were then asked to investigate a landform that they considered wonderful. The students created a model and research portfolio. The project culminated in a sharing of places across the English and French Individuals and Societies groups. Well done to all involved.

Year 11 - Function and Specialisation

The students in Year 11 have been investigating the development of cities and the impact that growth has had on the area. The group was divided into small teams to develop a case study of a city of their choice. They were asked to investigate why the city has grown and the impact that has had on the city. The students then developed a Google Slide presentation to share their findings with the group.
